There is no straight answer to which massage or alternative therapy is most suitable for the purpose of relaxation. It all depends on the individual person whatever type of relaxation method feels pleasant and relaxing to each individual. Some people find Meditation works well for them where as some people prefer and respond better to touch in which case a relaxation massage such as a Swedish massage is recommended.
In addition to the many health related benefits massage therapy is also a powerful tool to treat stress related tension which can have a considerable impact on our daily life and mental health.
When we feel stressed and tired our muscles respond by tensing up. It is almost like a reflex reaction to stress. this type of tension occurs as the muscle is trying to defend it self from further damage and injury. It is treated in the same way as any muscular tension depending on the severity. In some cases a relaxation massage can resolve the issue.
At times when you are running short of time to engage in any type of relaxation activity. breathing exercises can help to reduce the level of stress and anxiety.
Find yourself a quiet place a comfortable armchair sit back and relax. Close your eyes and visualise a positive thought or picture, perhaps a nice memory of a holiday or a scenery or quiet landscape. This is your tool to block out any negative thoughts, that caused you to feel stressed. If a negative thought keeps interfering , then go back to your positive vision. Take a deep breath and slowly exhale. Repeat this controlled breathing about five times and take a break enjoy the silence for a few seconds and repeat. To finish this exercise slowly let your positive thought fade away breath as normal keep your eyes closed for a few more minutes and feel ready to face the day again.
Similarly to those with breathing issues, anyone with severe heart issues – including cardiac arrhythmia, slow heart rate, high blood pressure, angina or chest pain, a recent heart attack, heart disease, or any other heart condition should be cautious before beginning breathing exercises.
To be safe it is best to consult with your Doctor first.
